Pump Cylinder Volume

The Pump Cylinder Volume calculator computes the displacement volume (V) of one stroke of a pump cylinder based on the stroke length (L) and cylinder diameter (D).

INSTRUCTIONS:  Choose units and enter the following:

• (L) Stroke Length of Pump Cylinder
• (D) Diameter of Pump Cylinder

Pump Cylinder Volume (V):  The calculator returns the displacement volume in gallons.  However this can be automatically converted to compatible units via the pull-down menu.

The Math / Science

The formula for the displacement volume of a cylinder in a pump is:

             V = π•(D/2)²•L

where:

• V is the volume displaced in one stroke of the pump
• D is the inner diameter of the pump cylinder
• L is the pump cylinder stroke length
