The Electric Field Vector calculator computes the vector based on the force vector and test charge.

INSTRUCTIONS: Choose units and enter the following:

  • (`vecF`) Electric Force Vector in Newtons
  • (qt) Test Charge

Electric Field Vector (`vecE`): The calculator returns the vector in Newtons per Coulomb (N/C).  The calculator also returns the magnitude of the electric field vector in Newtons per Coulomb (N/C).  However, this can be automatically converted to compatible units via the pull-down menu.

The Math / Science

The Electric Field Vector is found using the following formula:

`vecE=vecF/q_t`

where:

  • `vecE` =  electric field vector
  • `vecF` = electric force vector
  • `q_t` = test charge
