Total Cost (TC): The calculator computes the cost to paint the room in U.S. dollars, the square footage covered, and the number of gallons of paint required. Amounts with units can be automatically converted to compatible units via the pull-down menu. The calculator returns the value for the room including the ceiling and for the walls only.

Paint Cost Survey Data
One should use the pricing for paint or primer that can be bought locally. However, the following prices are recent U.S. dollar costs for different price ranges of paint and primer in the United States:

- Price of premium (high quality) paint is $61.94 USD
- Price of medium grade paint is $48.98 USD
- Price of economy paint is $26.98 USD
- Price of primer is $19.98 USD
Notes: This formula will round up on the number of gallons used for pricing if the fraction part of the number of gallons is greater than 10%. Also, this does not include the ceiling. Often ceilings are painted with different paint since they tend to have less contact with people and other things, and because ceilings make for nice accent (lighter) surfaces.
