KitchenUnits=f(vm)
(v)One Batch Volume
(m)Number of Batches

The Big Recipe Amounts calculator computes the amount of ingredients needed for a large recipe.

Instructions: Choose your preferred volume units and enter the following:

  1. (v) One Batch Volume (e.g., 1.5 cups)
  2. (m) Number of Batches  (e.g., 7)

Big Recipe: The calculator will compute the number of gallons, quarts, pints and cups that sum up to the equivalent volume times the number of recipes entered.  The answer for the example is Gallons(2) Pints(1) 1/4 Cups(1), meaning two gallons plus 1 pint plus 1 quarter cup of ingredients.

The Math / Science

If a recipe calls for 3 cups of flour, how many cups will you need to multiply the recipe by 20?  This converts a volume of any units (e.g. Gallons, Liters or see Input Units below), multiplies it by number of recipes (m) and converts it into its equivalent in kitchen units (gallons, quarts, pints, cups(whole, half and quarter, tablespoons and teaspoons). /attachments/32196a19-78f9-11e6-9770-bc764e2038f2/EnglishUnits.png                                     English Volume Units
                              (approximate SI equivalents)

Description:

The English volume units of gallons, quarts, pints, cups, tablespoon and teaspoon are still used in different applications and locations.  This utility allows the user to enter a volume in any of the vCalc system volume units, and converts it to the equivalent of gallons, quarts, pints, cups, tablespoon and teaspoon.

Usage:

Many times people will encounter volume measurements like 2.5 cups for a certain recipe, and they want to know what that turns into for a large batch (e.g. 20 times).  In the U.S., however, many people will have simple kitchen utensils (measuring cups and spoons) that could be employed.   This utility will let the user enter any volume, and return the number of utensil units that are the equivalent.  In the example of 20 x 2.5 cups, this calculator returns quarts(3), and pints(1).
