The Resting Metabolic Rate for Women calculates a woman's resting metabolic rate given her weight, height, and age. These particular equation does not account for activity level and only calculates the lower boundary of a person's metabolic rate during complete rest.

INSTRUCTIONS: Enter the following

  • (M) Weight or Mass
  • (H) Height
  • (A) Age (19-78)

Resting Metabolic Rate for Women (P): The resting metabolic rate is returned in food calories per day (kCal/Day).

The Math / Science

The human metabolic rate refers to the rate at which the body converts food into energy to sustain vital functions. It is typically measured in calories (or kilocalories) per unit of time (e.g., per day or per hour) and varies based on factors such as age, sex, weight, muscle mass, and activity level.

There are three primary components of metabolic rate:

  • Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) – The energy required to maintain essential bodily functions (e.g., breathing, circulation, cell production) while at rest.
  • Thermic Effect of Food (TEF) – The energy expended to digest, absorb, and metabolize nutrients from food.
  • Activity Energy Expenditure (AEE) – The energy used for physical activities, including both planned exercise and non-exercise activities (like walking or fidgeting).

Metabolic rate can be influenced by genetics, hormonal balance, temperature, and overall health. It is often assessed using indirect calorimetry or estimated through predictive equations such as the Harris-Benedict Equation or the Mifflin-St Jeor Equation.

The formula for Resting Metabolic Rate for women used in this calculator is the Mifflin St Jeor Equation:

P=10m1kg+6.25h1cm

 Where:

  • P = Calories per Day Burned at Rest
  • m = Mass / Weight of Person
  • h = Height of Person
  • a = age of Person

Calories Burned Calculators

  • Calories Burned in Aerobics: Estimates the calories based on the type of aerobic exercise activity, weight of person and the duration of time in exercise.
  • Calories Burned Canoeing: Estimates the calories burned paddling a canoe based on the effort level, weight of person and the duration of time paddling.
  • Calories Burned Cross-country Skiing: Estimates the calories burned cross-country skiing based on the effort level of skiing, weight of person and the duration of time cross-country skiing.
  • Calories Burned Cycling a Distance: Estimates the calories based on the distance travelled cycling, weight of person and the duration of time to travel distance cycling. It also returns the average speed.
  • Calories Burned Cycling at Speed: Estimates the calories based on the approximate speed, weight of person and the duration of time cycling.
  • Calories Burned Downhill Skiing: Estimates the calories burned downhill skiing based on the weight of person and the duration of time skiing.
  • Calories Burned Golfing: Estimates the calories burned golfing based on the effort level (carrying clubs, club cart, electric cart), weight of person and the duration of time golfing.
  • Calories Burned HikingEstimates the calories burned hiking based on the weight of person and the duration of time hiking.
  • Calories Burned Horseback Riding: Estimates the calories burned horseback riding based on the activity level, weight of person and the duration of time horseback riding.
  • Calories Burned Jumping RopeEstimates the calories burned doing jump-rope exercise based on the effort level, weight of person and the duration of time jumping rope.
  • Calories Burned Kayaking: Estimates the calories burned kayaking based on the weight of person and the duration of time kayaking.
  • Calories Burned Mowing Grass: Estimates the calories burned cutting grass based on the method used (walking or riding mower), weight of person and the duration of time mowing grass.
  • Calories Burned Running a Distance: Estimates the calories burned running based on the distance run, weight of person and the duration of time to run the distance.  It also returns the average speed.
  • Resting Metabolic Rate for Men: Estimates a man's resting metabolic rate in calories per day (kcal/day) given his weight, height, and age.
  • Resting Metabolic Rate for Women Estimates a woman's resting metabolic rate in food calories per day (kcal/day) given her weight, height, and age.
