Function
The Dewormer Dosage calculator computes the correct dosage based on the weight of the animal (W), the directed dose per pound (D), and the amount of active ingredient per milliliter (A).
Calculate dewormer dosage (DD) in milliliters:
- Choose units
- Enter the weight of the animal (W)
- Enter the directed dose in milligrams per pound (D)
- Enter the amount of active ingredient in milligrams per milliliter (A)
Dewormer Dosage (DD): The calculator returns the correct dosage in milliliters. However, this can be automatically converted to other units such as teaspoons and tablespoons via the pull-down menu.
The Math
The Dewormer Dosage (DD) can be found using the following formula:
`DD = (W*D)/A`
where:
- DD = dewormer dosage
- W = weight of the animal
- D = directed dosage
- A = amount of active ingredient per milliliter
Example
The picture to the right indicates a base, or active ingredient amount (A), of 50 mg/mL. If the dose (D) is 2.27 mg per pound and the animal weighs 12 pounds (W), find the correct dewormer dosage (DD):
(12 pounds * 2.27 mg/mL) / 50 mg/mL
= 0.5448 mL dewormer dosage
