The Price per Ton calculator computes the price to buy or sell a certain weight or mass of a product at a unit price.
INSTRUCTIONS: Choose units (e.g., US tons, Metric tons, UK tons) and enter the following:
- (WM) Product Weight. This is the weight or mass of product to be bought or sold. (e.g. 15 tons of gravel).
- (UP) Unit Price per Ton of Product (e.g. $78.98 per ton).
Total Cost (TC): The calculator returns the total price in U.S. dollars (USD). However, this can be automatically converted into numerous other currencies (see list below) via the pull-down menu next to the answer. The calculator also returns the following:
- (USD/t) The equivalent unit price in US dollars per metric ton (USD/t)
- (TC GBP) Total Cost in Great Britain Pounds (£) with the equivalent unit cost in Pounds per metric ton (GBP/t).
- (TC CAD) Total Cost in Canadian Dollars with the equivalent unit cost in Canadian dollars per metric ton (CAD/t).
- (TD INR) Total Cost in Indian Rupees with the equivalent unit cost in Rupees per metric ton (INR/t).
The Math / Science
The formula for the Total Cost base on a price per ton is:
TC = WM • UP
where:
- TC = Total Cost
- WM = Weight or Mass of product (e.g. 2.2 tons)
- UP = Unite Price of product (e.g. $49.50 per ton)
Tons
Unfortunately there are three commonly accepted measurements for a ton.
- 1 U.S. ton is 2,000 pounds, 0.9072 metric tons, 907.18 kilograms, and 0.8928 UK tons
- 1 Metric ton is 2,204.623 pounds, 1,000 kilograms, and 0.9842 UK tons.
- 1 UK ton is 2,240 pounds, 1.016 metric tons, 1016.5 kilograms and 1.12 US tons
Also, the exchange rate between currencies is constantly changing (see table to the right). vCalc computes the exchange rate every two minutes. This calculator takes into consideration both factors, different tons and exchange rates to compute an accurate answer.
