The Math / Science

The formula to estimate the carat weight of an Old European Cut diamond is:

Wt = vLENGTH * hWIDTH * DEPTH * 0.0064 * wc

where:

Wt = Carat Weight of an Old English Diamond
vLength = Vertical Length of face
hWidth = Horizontal Width of face
Depth = Depth of side (see diagram)
wc = Diamond Weight Correction, which is between 1.00 and 1.08 depending on the girdle thickness and mean diameter.
- Mean Diameter = (WIDTH + LENGTH)/2
