The Force Addition equation  (f = f1 + f2)  computes the net sum of two orthogonal forces (f1 and f2).

INSTRUCTIONS:  Choose units and enter the following:

  • (f1) Force 1 (horizontal)
  • (f2) Force 2 (vertical)

Sum of Forces (f): The calculator returns the sum of the two forces (f) in Newtons and the elevation angle (θ) in degrees.  However, these can be automatically converted to compatible units via the pull-down menu.

The Math / Science

Net Force: If two forces are acting in a line, the net force can be computed by adding the magnitude of both forces.  This can be applied with vertical forces (trust up and gravity down).  Note: Negative values can be use for opposing forces.
