PVC is the abbreviation for Polyvinyl Chloride.  PVC is the a widely used synthetic material used in many products including pipes.  There are two main types of PVC pipes, regular PVC and CPVC which has better properties for handling higher temperatures.  PVC Pipes are also characterized by their thickness which is indexed by schedule, where schedule 40 is PVC with thinner walls and schedule 80 has thicker walls.

The relationship between length of conduit, level of difficulty, size of PVC and the time to install comes from industry standard numbers.  The relationship between length of conduit, size of PVC and CPVC and the weight comes from industry standard numbers.  The following tables are the basis of the weight, length, and time estimates in this calculator.
