The Math Science

The saturation ratio  R_S is the ratio of the water contained in a sample volume to the volume of voids `V_V` and represents the amount of volume that can still absorb more water.  The formula for saturation ratio is:

    R_S = V_w / V_v

where:

• R_S is the water saturation ratio.
• V_w is the volume of water
• V_v is the volume of the voids.

Notes

In engineering application the saturation ratio indicate how far from saturation the soil is.
