The Capacitors in Parallel calculator computes the net capacitance of two capacitors in parallel.

INSTRUCTIONS: Choose units and enter the following:

  • (C1) Capacitance of First Capacitor
  • (C2) Capacitance of Second Capacitor

Net Capacitance (Cnet): The calculator returns the capacitance in farads.  However, this can be automatically change to compatible units via the pull-down menu.

The Math / Science

The Capacitors in Parallel calculator computes the effective capacitance of two capacitors in parallel assuming that the resistance of connection wires is negligible.  For more information on Capacitors, in series or in general, please see Capacitors.

The formula for net capacitance of two capacitors in parallel is:

Cnet =  C1 + C2

where:

  • Cnet = Capacitance of capacitors in parallel
  • C1 = Capacitance of first capacitor
  • C2 = Capacitance of second capacitor

The Capacitors in Parallel equation1 calculates the effective capacitance of two capacitors in parallel.  We're assuming that the resistance of the wire is negligible.  For more information on Capacitors, in parallel or in general, please see Capacitors.
