The Math / Science
This calculator is based on a classic potato salad recipe that's perfect for any gathering:
Classic Potato Salad Recipe
Ingredients:
2 pounds of potatoes (Yukon Gold or red potatoes work well)
1 cup mayonnaise
2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
2 tablespoons sweet relish
1 teaspoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt (more to taste)
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 cup chopped celery
3 celery stalks
3 hard-boiled eggs, chopped
2 tablespoons fresh dill or parsley, chopped (optional)
Instructions:
Prepare the Potatoes:
Peel the potatoes (if desired) and cut them into 1-inch cubes.
Place the potatoes in a large pot and cover them with cold water. Add a generous pinch of salt.
Bring the water to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for about 10-15 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender when pierced with a fork.
Drain the potatoes and let them cool completely.
Prepare Ingredients:
Dice the hardboiled eggs and celery stalks and set aside.
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, sweet relish, salt, onion powder and black pepper until smooth.
Combine Ingredients:
Once the potatoes are cool, add them to the bowl with the dressing.
Gently fold in the chopped celery and hard-boiled eggs.
Mix until all ingredients are well coated with the dressing.
Chill:
Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1-2 hours before serving. This allows the flavors to meld together.
Taste and adjust the seasoning with more salt and pepper if needed.
Garnish and Serve:
Before serving, garnish with fresh dill or parsley if desired.
Serve chilled and enjoy!
Tips:
Potatoes: Yukon Gold or red potatoes hold their shape well and have a nice texture for potato salad.
Customization: Feel free to add other ingredients like chopped green onions, bell peppers, or even bacon bits for extra flavor and crunch.
Storage: Store leftover potato salad in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days.
