It is common for inexperienced artists to have difficulty determining a fair price for their work. To help with this there are several different formulas that have been developed to aid in the process by setting some concrete parameters to take the guess work out of the equation. This method determines the cost by multiplying the size of the painting in square inches by a dollar amount and then adding the cost of your materials. The creator of this formula, Lori Woodward, also recommends rounding the price to the nearest hundred and doubling the cost of materials to account for the commission charged by a gallery if you sell your pieces that way.
