x_{a} = \frac{n_{a}}{n_{a} + n_{b}}

$x_a = n_a/(n_a+n_b)$

(n_{a}) moles of solute A

The Math / Science

The mole fraction^[1] is an equation which computes the fraction (in moles) of a substance from a mixture. The mole fraction, just like the mass fraction, is moles of substance A over a total amount of moles present.

The mole fraction formula is:

$x_{a} = \frac{n_{a}}{n_{a} + n_{b}}$ $x_a =n_a/(n_a+n_b)$

where:

x_a = mole fraction
n_a = moles in solute A
n_b = moles in solvent B
