The Weight of a Water in Rectangular (Cuboid) Tank calculator computes the weight of water in a tank based on the length and width of the tank and the depth of the water in the tank. (see diagram).Diagram of rectangular tank.

INSTRUCTIONS: Choose units and enter the following:

  • (L) Length of Tank
  • (W) Width of Tank
  • (D) Depth of water in Tank

Weight of Water (M): The volume is returned in gallons.  However, this can be automatically converted into many other volume units (e.g. cubic feet, gallons, litres) via the pull-down menu.

The Math / Science

The formula for the weight of water in a cuboid is:

         M = L • D • W • mD

where:

  • M is the mass or weight of the cubiod.
  • L is the length of the cuboid.
  • D is the depth of the cuboid.
  • W is the width of the cuboid.
  • mD is the density of water
