Pipe Insulation Calc

The Pipe Insulation Calc computes the number of bags of pipe insulation needed for a run of pipes based on the 12' of length per bag and the length of pipe run to be insulated.

The Math / Science

The standard bag of pipe insulation has four lengths of three foot long hard foam insulation tubes with a slit to slip over a pipe.  The formula for number of bags of pipe insulation is:

nB = PL / IBL

where:

• nB = Number of Insulation Tube Bags
• PL = Pipe length to be insulated
• IBL = Length of Pipe Covered by 1 Bag.
