The Capacitors in Series calculator computes the net capacitance of two capacitors in series.
INSTRUCTIONS: Choose units and enter the following:
- (C1) Capacitance of First Capacitor
- (C2) Capacitance of Second Capacitor
Net Capacitance (Cnet): The calculator returns the capacitance in farads. However, this can be automatically change to compatible units via the pull-down menu.
The Math / Science
The Capacitors in Series calculator computes the effective capacitance of two capacitors in series assuming that the resistance of the connection wire is negligible. For more information on Capacitors, in series or in general, please see Capacitors.
The formula for net capacitance of two capacitors in series is:
Cnet = 11C1+1C211C1+1C2
where:
- Cnet = Capacitance of capacitors in series
- C1 = Capacitance of first capacitor
- C2 = Capacitance of second capacitor
