The Capacitor Potential calculator uses the capacitor equation q = CV to solve for potential (V).
INSTRUCTIONS: Choose units and enter the following:
- (q) This is the magnitude of the charge
- (C) This is the capacitance of the capacitor.
Capacitor Potential (V): The calculator returns the capacitance in Volts (V). However this can be automatically converted to compatible units via the pull-down menu.
The Math / Science
The capacitor formula solved for potential is:
V = q / C
where
- q - the magnitude of charge on each plate of the capacitor.
- C - the "capacitance" of a capacitor, a quality invented for and described by q=CV.
- V - the magnitude of the change in potential across the capacitor.
