The E = m•γ•c² calculator computes the energy from an amount of mass based on the mass (m) and a relativity factor.
INSTRUCTIONS: Choose units and enter the following:
- m - mass of the object
- γ - relativity factor
Energy from Mass (E): The calculator returns the energy in Joules. However, this can be automatically converted to compatible units via the pull-down menu.
The Math / Science
The E = m•c² equation computes Einstiens Special Relativity formula for the Energy (Joules) that exists in a mass (m in kilograms) at rest as a function of the speed of light (c in meters per second). This equation takes into account the energy of an mass with a relativity factor based on the objects velocity.
E = m•γ•c²
where:
- m - mass of the object
- γ - relativity factor
- c - speed of light
Mass-Energy-Light Calculators
- E = m•c² (mass/energy equivalent)
- m = E/c² (mass from energy)
- E = m•γ•c² (mass/energy equivalent not at rest)
- E = h•ν (Quantum Energy)
- p = m•γ•v (Relativistic Momentum)
- c (Speed of light) = 2.99792458E8 m/s
- c² (Speed of Light Squared) = 931.46 MeV/u
- Lorentz factor (`gamma`)
- KE ≈ m(1+v²/(2c²)-1)c² (Relativistic Kinetic Energy)
