Lorentz factor

γ=11-(vc)2
(v)relative velocity

The Lorentz factor calculator computes the time dilation (γ) measured with an atomic clock at low speeds.

INSTRUCTIONS:  Choose units and enter the following:

  • (v)  Relative velocity of two observers

Time Dilation(γ): The calculator return the dilation as a real number.

The Math / Science

The theoretical curve for time dilation (Lorentz factor) is found using the following formula:

      γ=11-(vc)2

where:

  • γ  = Lorentz factor
  • v =  Relative velocity of two observers
  • c =  speed of light, the universal velocity that is the same in all frames of reference.
