The Lorentz factor calculator computes the time dilation (γ) measured with an atomic clock at low speeds.
INSTRUCTIONS: Choose units and enter the following:
- (v) Relative velocity of two observers
Time Dilation(γ): The calculator return the dilation as a real number.
The Math / Science
The theoretical curve for time dilation (Lorentz factor) is found using the following formula:
γ=1√1-(vc)2,
where:
- γ = Lorentz factor
- v = Relative velocity of two observers
- c = speed of light, the universal velocity that is the same in all frames of reference.
Mass-Energy-Light Calculators
- E = m•c² (mass/energy equivalent)
- m = E/c² (mass from energy)
- E = m•γ•c² (mass/energy equivalent not at rest)
- E = h•ν (Quantum Energy)
- p = m•γ•v (Relativistic Momentum)
- c (Speed of light) = 2.99792458E8 m/s
- c² (Speed of Light Squared) = 931.46 MeV/u
- Lorentz factor (γ)
- KE ≈ m(1+v²/(2c²)-1)c² (Relativistic Kinetic Energy)
