Gold Alloy Value

The Gold Alloy Value calculator computes the gold bullion value of Gold Alloy based on the purity (karat) and weight.

Gold Alloy Value (GAV): The value of Gold Alloy is returned in United States dollars (USD).  However, this can be automatically converted to other currencies via the pull-down menu.

The Math / Science

The value is based on a SPOT price for gold within the last two minutes.  The value of U.S. dollars can be automatically converted in numerous other currencies (e.g. Euro) via the pull-down menu.  The current gold spot price is $99.175 / gram.  For the Alloy Value of gold, platinum, palladium or silver with a percent purity instead of karat value,CLICK HERE.

The weight can be in Troy ounces(oz), pennyweight (dwt) or grams (g). vCalc converts the weight into Troy Ounces and then fetches the current spot price for an ounce of gold. It then multiplies the weight of the pure gold content against the spot price.  It then subtracts the scrap and jeweler's fees.

Useful Facts

1. Refiners charge between 5% and 10% based on the volume and business arrangements they have with the retail gold buyer.  However, scrap with a significant amount of other content (stones) will merit a significantly larger markup.
2. SPOT currently comes from /www.xmlcharts.com with updates every two minutes.
