The Constant of Inverse Proportionality calculator computes the constant of inverse proportionality based on the two related values (x and y).

INSTRUCTIONS: Enter the following:

  • (y)  This is the dependent value (aka range)
  • (x)  This is the independent value (aka domain)

Constant of Inverse Proportionality (k): The calculator returns the inverse proportional value.

The Math / Science

If two values (x and y) are inversely proportionally related, one can express their relationship in the formula:

         y=kx

where:

  • y = the dependent value or range
  • x = the independent value or domain
  • k = the  constant of inverse proportionality

To find the constant of proportionality, one multiplies both sides of the equation by x and gets:

   yx=k
