The Slope Intercept form of a Line utility provides the slope-intercept form of a line based on the value of two points (x1 , y1 and x2 , y2)./attachments/5c807277-1dcb-11e6-9770-bc764e2038f2/slope-intercept.png

INSTRUCTIONS: Enter the following:

  • (P1) Point 1 x1 and y1 Coordinates
  • (P2) Point 2 x2 and y2 Coordinates

Slope Intercept Line (y = mx +b): The utility returns a string with the slope-intercept form of the line.

The  Math / Science

The slope intercept form gives the equation of a line, using the slope (m) and a point on the y-axis (b) as follows:

     y = mx + b

The algorithm looks for the following special cases:

  1. If the two points are the same, no line is formed just a point.
  2. If the x components are the same, the slope is infinite, and the line has a constant value equal to the x component.
  3. If the y components are the same, the slope is zero, and the line has a constant value equal to the y component.

With the slope and intercept (b) from the slope intercept formula, you can enter any value of x and get the corresponding value of y on the line.
