The Roof Pitch calculator computes the pitch of a roof based on the rise (r) and the run (R).

Pitch (P):  The calculator computes the angle of the pitch in degrees and the approximate rise over run (e.g. 4/12)

The Math / Science

The pitch of a roof is the ratio of the rise over run.  Instead of angles (degrees or radians), a roof's inclination is  typically given as the rise over run ratio.  To formula for the pitch of a roof is:

P = atan(r/R)

where:

• P = pitch angle in degrees and 12^th ratio (e.g., 6/12, 10/12)
• r = rise
• R = run
