The Total Daily Energy Expenditure calculator computes the daily calories burned by a person based on their Basal Metabolic Rate and their level of activity.
INSTRUCTIONS: Choose units and enter the following.
- (h) height
- (w) weight
- (a) age
- (g) gender
- (AL) Activity Level
Total Daily Energy Expended(TDEE): The calculator returns food calories per day (kcal). However, this can be automatically converted to compatible units via the pull-down menu
The Math / Science
The Total Energy Expenditure formula is as follows:
TDEE = BMR * AL-Factor
where:
- TDEE = Total Daily Energy Expended
- BMR = Basal Metabolic Rate
- AL-Factor = Activity Level Factor
The Activity Level Factor is as follows:
- sedentary: 1.2
- light: 1.275
- moderate: 1.55
- very active: 1.725
- extremely active: 1.9
The Base Metabolic Rate (BMR) formula computes the daily calories consumed by a person at rest based on their gender (g), age (a), weight(w) and height (h). The formula is based on the Mifflin St Jeor equation.
