TL=(lUdU)P
(lU)Unit Length of Production/Consumption
(dU)Duration of Production/Consumption per Unit Length
(P)Total Period

The Length Produced, Consumed or Covered over Time calculator computes the linear distance or length produced or consumed over a period of time based on the unit of length (lU), time to produce or consume the unit (dU) and the period (p) of production or consumption.

INSTRUCTIONS:  Choose your preferred length and time units and enter the following:

  • (lU)  Length Unit (e.g. 4.5 meters)
  • (dU) Amount of Time to produce or consume the Length Unit (e.g. 2.3 hours to product 4.5 meters)
  • (P) Total Period of Production (e.g. 72 hours)

Total Length (TL): The Total Length is returned in meters (m).  However, this can be automatically converted to many other length units via the pull-down menu.   Tocompute the time to produce or consume a length based on a unit length (lU) and time to produce a unit length (dU), CLICK HERE.

The Math / Science

Production and consumption of materials or distance traveled over time can be estimated or measured based on the average movement, production or consumption rate of a unit.  This calculator measures the units as lengths such as inches, miles, kilometer or nano-meters.  With this calculator you can determine how much length is traversed, used, covered, produced or consumed over time.

Example

Production examples:

  • Cable company that buries 450 yards(lU) of cable every 5 days(dU).  This calculator can tell you how much is cable is laid in 36 hours (p).  The answer is  135 yards.
  • Ship that sales 122 nautical miles(lU)  at sea every day(dU).  This calculator can tell you how many nautical miles will have been traveled in five days (p).  The answer is 610 NMI.

Consumption examples:

  • the fabric factory that uses 7800 meters(lU) of silk thread every month (dU).  This calculator can tell you how much silk thread is used on every 18 hour (p) duty cycle. The answer is 19.2 meters.
  • the country that loses 12.6 km(lU) of coastline to rising sea-level every year(dU).  This calculator can tell you how much coast will be lost in 30 years (p). The answer is 378 kilometers (234.8 miles).

The Production Calculator computes the cost in time or capital to buy, produce or consume commodities measured by number of units or by length, area, volume or weight.  It provides automatic conversions between different units for time, length, area, volume, mass and up to date currency conversions between several international currencies.
