The Time for Units calculator computes the period of time (T) needed to produce or consume a certain number units based on the unit time to produce or consume a designated number of units.

INSTRUCTIONS: Choose units and enter the following:

  • (X) Total Number of Units to be produced, consumed or processed.
  • (UNUnit Number processed in Unit Period (e.g. 3,800 apples picked per week)
  • (UP) Unit Period required to process the Unit Number of items (e.g. one week to pick 3,800 apples)

Time to Process Units (T): The calculator returns the required time for the production or consumption of the units.  Time is returned in hours.  However, this can be automatically converted to other time units (e.g. days or weeks) via the pull-down menu.

The Math / Science

Production and consumption of materials over time can be estimated or measured based on the average production or consumption rate of a unit.  This calculator uses a known unit production rate (e.g. 6 marbles in 20 seconds) to compute the total amount of time needed to produce a different number of units (e.g. 10,000 marbles).  The formula for time for units is:

T = X * (UP/NU)

where:

  • T = Total time to process X units at the production rate
  • UP = Time to process NU units
  • NU = Number of Units for the production rate

Note: the production rate per unit is simply:

Prate = UP/NU

Production Calculator

The Production Calculator computes the cost in time or capital to buy, produce or consume commodities measured by number of units or by length, area, volume or weight.  It provides automatic conversions between different units for time, length, area, volume, mass and up to date currency conversions between several international currencies.

Amdahl's Law: Computes the speedup factor for a total task based on the speedup factor of a portion of the task and the percent of that portion in relation to the total task.
