EMT Conduit Calculators

The EMT Conduit Calculator estimates the time to install, the lengthElectrical Metallic Tubing (EMT) graphic installed over a set time and the weight of a specified length of Electrical Metallic Tubing (EMT Conduit).

The Math / Science

EMT stands for Electrical Metallic Tubing (aka thin-wall tubing).  EMT is often used as a lower cost solution to galvanized rigid conduit (GRC).  EMT is not threaded but can be used with threaded fittings via the use of clamps.  EMT is typically made of steel.

The relationship between length of conduit, level of difficulty, size of EMT and the time to install comes from industry standard numbers.  The following table is the basis of this calculator.

      Hours per feet Installed
Size Lvl1 Lvl2 Lvl3 Lvl4
1/2"    0.030 0.037 0.045 0.053
3/4"    0.040 0.050 0.060 0.075
1"      0.050 0.062 0.075 0.094
1-1/4"  0.053 0.056 0.079 0.099
1-1/2"  0.056 0.070 0.084 0.105
2"      0.064 0.080 0.096 0.120
2-1/2"  0.070 0.087 0.105 0.132
3"      0.080 0.100 0.120 0.150
3-1/2"  0.100 0.125 0.150 0.188
4"      0.120 0.150 0.180 0.225

The relationship between length of conduit, size of EMT and the weight comes from industry standard numbers.  The following table is the basis of the weight estimates in this calculator and it shows the mass / weight value of the EMT per hundred feet length.

      Weight per 100 ft Length
Size Pounds Kilograms
1/2"    30 13.6
3/4"    46 20.9
1"      67 30.4
1-1/4"  101 45.8
1-1/2"  116 52.6
2"      148 67.1
2-1/2"  216 98
3"      263 119.3
3-1/2"  349 158.3
4"      393 178.2
