The Weight of Electrical Metallic Tubing (EMT) calculator estimates the total weight of Electrical Metallic Tubing (EMT Conduit) based on the size of the conduit (S) and the length (L).

      Weight per 100 ft Length
Size Pounds Kilograms
1/2"    30 13.6
3/4"    46 20.9
1"      67 30.4
1-1/4"  101 45.8
1-1/2"  116 52.6
2"      148 67.1
2-1/2"  216 98
3"      263 119.3
3-1/2"  349 158.3
4"      393 178.2

INSTRUCTIONS: Choose units and enter the following:

  • (S) Size of Conduit (inches)
  • (L) Length of Conduit

EMT Conduit Weight(w): The calculator returns the estimated weight in pounds.  However this can be automatically converted to compatible units via the pull-down menu.

The Math / Science

EMT stands for Electrical Metallic Tubing (aka thin-wall tubing).  EMT is often used as a lower cost solution to galvanized rigid conduit (GRC).  EMT is not threaded but can be used with threaded fittings via the use of clamps.  EMT is typically made of steel.

The relationship between length of conduit, size of EMT and the weight comes from industry standard numbers.  The table above is the basis of this calculator and it shows the mass / weight value of the EMT per hundred feet length.

Conduit Weight Estimates

  • EMT Conduit Weight: Estimate the weight of Electrical Metallic Tubing based on the size of the tubing and the length.
  • GRC Conduit Weight: Estimate the weight of Galvanized Rigid Conduit based on the size and length of the conduit.
  • PVC Schedule 40 Weight: Estimate the weight of Schedule 40 PVC based on the size, length and whether it is PVC or CPVC.
  • Metal Clad Cable Weight: Estimate the weight of metal clad cable based on the size and the length.

Wiring and Box Estimates
