The Base Running Speed calculator computes the average speed the runner achieved in getting to base using the time to reach the base and the standard distance between bases in different leagues./attachments/1fdee409-4f5c-11e6-9770-bc764e2038f2/BaseDistanceTable.png

INSTRUCTION: Enter the following:

  • (League)  Choose the league from the pull-down menu.  The choices are:
    • MLB,College,High School,Little League,Colt League,Bronco League,Mustang League,Pinto League,Shetland League
  • (t) This is the time to reach the base.

Base Running Speed (V): The calculator returns the speed in miles per hour.  However, this can be automatically converted to compatible units via the pull-down menu.

The Math / Science

The Base Running Speed is the speed at which a baserunner moves from one base to the next. This is calculated based on the distance to the base as well as the time it takes to reach the base. The distance varies depending on the League regulations for field size. The Base Running Speed formula is:
