The Body mass index (BMI) is a measure of body fat based on height and weight that applies to adult men and women. You should take appropriate actions in maintaining a healthy weight in relation to your heart. This helps you avoid many health risks. BMI is an inexpensive and easy screening method for weight categories—underweight, healthy weight, overweight, and obesity. BMI does not measure body fat directly, but BMI is moderately correlated with more direct measures of body fat.
Based on your result:
When the BMI is < 18.5 then you are underweight
When the BMI ranges between 18.5-24.9 then you have a normal weight
When the BMI ranges between 25-29.9 then you are overweight
When the BMI ranges between 30-39.9 then you are obese
When the BMI is >40 then it indicates morbid obesity.
Note:
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), A high BMI can indicate high body fatness. BMI screens for weight categories that may lead to health problems, but it does not diagnose the body fatness or health of an individual.
