Area over Time

The Area Covered, Produced or Consumed over Time calculator computes the area produced or consumed over a period of time based on the unit of are (`aU`), time to produce or consume the unit (`dU`) and the period (`p`) of production or consumption.

INSTRUCTIONS: Choose your preferred area and time units and enter the following:

• (aU)  Unit Area amount (e.g. 2.3 square yards)
• (dU)  Time to Process unit area amount (e.g. 1.2 milliseconds)
• (p) Total Period of Production, consumption or processing (e.g. 42 hours)

Area Processed over Time (A): Calculator returns area in square meters.  However, this can be automatically converted to other area units (e.g. square inches, acres) via the pull-down menu.  

The Math / Science

The formula for area processed is:

A = (aU/dU) * p

where:

• A = Total Area Processed
• aU = Unit Area
• dU = Unit Duration to process Unit Area

Production and consumption of materials over time can be estimated or measured based on the average production or consumption rate of a unit.  This calculator measures the units as areas such as acres, square miles or square nano-meters.  With this calculator you can determine how much area is used, covered, produced or consumed over time.

• Total Cost of Units: Computes total cost based on the number of units and the cost of a single unit.
• Unit Cost:  Computes the Average Unit Cost.

• Price per Length or Distance: Computes total cost for items measured by length or distance.
• Length over Time: Computes total length processed or traveled over time. 
• Time for Length: Computes time required to process or travel length or distance based on a rate.

• Price per Area: Computes total cost for items measured by area.  
• Area over Time: Computes the total area processed or traveled over time.  
• Time for Area: Computes time required to process an area based at a rate.

• Price per Volume: Computes total cost for items measured by volume.  
• Volume over Time: Computes total volume processed over time based a rate.  
• Time for Volume: Computes time required to process a volume based at a rate.

PRICE or Production Time by WEIGHT or MASS

• Price per Weight or Mass: Computes total cost for items measured by weight or mass.
• Weight or Mass over Time: Computes total weight or mass processed over time based on a rate. 
• Time for Weight or Mass: Computes time required to process a weight or mass based at a rate.

Amdahl's Law: Computes the speedup factor for a total task based on the speedup factor of a portion of the task and the percent of that portion in relation to the total task.

Area Units

Example

Production examples:

• Paving company that paves 450 square yards(`aU`) of black-top every 45 minutes (`dU`).  This calculator can tell you how much is paved in 36 hours (`p`).  The answer is 21,600 square yards or 4.46 acres.
• Circuitry factory that can print 12.2 square centimeters(`aU`)  of microchips every 90 minutes(`dU`).  This calculator can tell you how many square meters are produced in five days (`p`).  The answer is 976 cm² (151.28 in²).

Consumption examples:

• the fabric factory that uses 78 square yards (`aU`) of silk every month (`dU`).  This calculator can tell you how much silk is used on every 18 hour (`p`) duty cycle. The answer is 1.92 square yards.
• the country that loses 12.6 acres (`aU`) of rain-forest to deforestation every day (`dU`).  This calculator can tell you how much rain-forest will be lost in 10 years (`p`). The answer is 46,020 acres (71.9 mi²) .
