The Units Produced or Consumed over Time calculator computes the units (X) produced or consumed over a period of time (T) based on the time to produce or consume (P) as standard number of units (N).
INSTRUCTIONS: Choose units and enter the following:
- (N) Number of units produced or consumed in the Unit Period (e.g. 3,800 apples picked per week)
- (P) Period or duration, which is the time span to process one unit amount (e.g. one week to pick 3,800 apples)
- (T) Time for the production or consumption. (e.g. 29 days)
Units (U): The calculator returns the number of units (X) produced or consumed over the period.
The Math / Science
Production and consumption of materials over time can be estimated or measured based on the average production or consumption rate of a unit. This calculator allows you to enter a standard number of units (N) that is processed (produced or consumed) in a standard period of time (P). With this calculator you can determine how many units are used, produced or consumed over a designated time (T).
The formula Units Produced or Consumed over Time is:
U=(NP)⋅T
where:
- U = Units produced or consumed
- N = Units per base unit of time
- P = Base period of time
- T = Total time of production or consumption
Example
Production examples:
- Microchip company that produces 34 of a certain kind of microchip(N) every 3.25 minutes (P). This calculator can tell you how many chips are produced in 36 hours (T). The answer is 22,596.92 chips.
- Brewery that bottles 720 bottles of beer(N) every 12 hour shift (P). This calculator can tell you how many bottles are produced in five days (T). The answer is 7,200 bottles every 5 days .
Consumption examples:
- College Dorm that uses 5,500 rolls of toilet paper (N) every year (P). This calculator can tell you how much toilet paper is needed every month (T). The answer is 458.33 rolls of toilet paper per month.
- Hospital that uses 1,400 20 ml syringes (N) every six months(P). This calculator can tell you how many are needed every week (T). The answer is 53.66 syringes per week.

Production Calculator
The Production Calculator computes the cost in time or capital to buy, produce or consume commodities measured by number of units or by length, area, volume or weight. It provides automatic conversions between different units for time, length, area, volume, mass and up to date currency conversions between several international currencies.
